Medicare Supplement Plans

Medicare Supplement plans work in conjunction with original Medicare parts A and B.

A supplement plan, also known as a MediGap plan, fills in the coverage gaps left exposed by Medicare parts A and B, including the following:

  • Inpatient hospital costs
  • Outpatient surgery costs

Where original Medicare can leave members financially exposed as the result of an extended hospital stay (beyond 30 days), a supplement plan protects its members from many unexpected surprise gaps in their healthcare coverage.

While Medicare Supplement plans tend to be among the more expensive healthcare options for seniors on Medicare, the coverage offered by these plans tends to remain the same year after year.

Should you choose a Medicare Supplement plan for your healthcare coverage, you will need to also select a Medicare Part D plan.  Make sure that the monthly premiums for both of these plans are included in your healthcare budget.
